For Raxus, The capital world of The Separatist, George wanted us to think of the capital as a land of perpetual autumn, a place of beauty as opposed to the obvious "bad guys' homeworld" idea.
First piece, I used Ralph McQuarrie's unused concept painting for Coruscant as inspiration and literally repainted his painting with more Gothic and world specific elements added to it. By tracing Ralph's footsteps, I've gained so much understanding for his image-making process. Note the "After RMQ" signature.
Second concept, this piece was inspired by Tolkien's Illustration of Mirkwood from The Hobbit as well as some of the old Disney vibe of Eyvind Earle, or the "Ave Maria" sequence from Fantasia.
Done in 2009 for Clone Wars Season 3.
